Vietnamese Women’s Musem
Learn about the role women have played throughout Vietnamese history. If you’re interested in Cold War propaganda and cultural handicrafts, the 30,000 (about $1.35) dong fee is well worth it. The museum is also walking distance from Hoan Kiem Lake and plenty of restaurants.

With dishes inspired the by her grandmother’s recipes, photos of Old Phuket, and the aroma’s from Phuket’s oldest herb shop next door, this female-owned restaurant in the heart of Phuket Old Town is a must visit and an educational experience. Watch the lighted Sino-Portuguese architecture change colors while you sip a chrysanthemum or peablossom tea and eat Chinese-Thai Hokkein noodles. And order Moo Hong, steamed porked belly with Chinese herbs and mushrooms.
Monkey Hill
As the name suggests, Monkey Hill is a delightful hike up to a breathtaking viewpoint of Phuket Town, the Andaman Sea, and the surrounding islands. Oh, and did we mention there are monkeys? Put on your workout gear and power-walk to the top with the locals or stop at the lookout cafes for a coffee and snack and check out the temple. For some free views, nature, and photo ops, Monkey Hill is a fantastic way to spend a few hours, right in the heart of Phuket Town.

Every Suday evening, historic Phuket Old Town is host to an open air artisan market selling art, jewelry, plants, herbs, used clothes, street food, and more. Lined with restored Sino-Portuguese architecture, book shops, boutiques, cafes, and restaurants keep longer hours and welcome pedestrians inside for cool drinks. You’ll probably catch traditional Thai dance performances or children from local school groups raising money for various causes on the island. Shop till you drop or take in the free scenery.

Packed with large tables and a board game library, Café Mox is a game lover’s dream. Attached to Card Kingdom, one of Seattle’s premier game stores, Café Mox has access to hundreds of games for you to play as you and your friends eat and drink reasonably priced fare. On a Friday night you may have to wait a while for a table (~1 hour), but that’s because they don’t ask patrons to leave and you will be competing for tables with Friday Night Magic. Vegan and some gluten free options.

Located in quirky Fremont neighborhood, Theo Chocolate offers delicious, hour long, informational tours of their facility for only $10. You will absolutely fill yourself full of artisanal chocolate and possibly even leave with a treat for later. Suitable for vegans – just tell them at the start of the tour. Call ahead to reserve spots and be sure to wear close toed shoes.

Mingle with a mixed crowd every Sunday at 1:30pm in Occidental Square Park when anarchist organization Food Not Bombs gives away organic produce donated by local food coops and organic grocery stores. Bring your own bags and be on time; food goes quick.
