-shopping -food -public transit If you’re heading out trekking or you’re just in need of a nice t-shirt to replace the one you ripped that night at the bar then head to Gamarra on a Saturday. It’s a garment district that is almost exploding with tiny stores selling low quality clothes and shoes. On Saturdays there are also many food vendors and street performers. Just make sure to find a safe way to get there and back, you might be able to pay a taxi driver to take you there then pick you up. Or you can take public transit but not recommended in the dark.

-food For the best French fries and chicharron (fried pork) sandwiches. There are a few different branches across the city with two in Miraflores (Parque Kennedy and the Larcomar Mall). The sweet potato fries are incredible!

LoveBug Vintage – Vintage Shop

-shopping -women owned Mostly vintage with some handmade goods thrown in as well, Violetta runs her shop out of an old apartment that used to be her mother’s art, studio giving it a unique feel. It can be easy to miss since you have to enter the apartment complex through a large door that accesses many more doors to other apartments. There are small signs that say LoveBug Vintage but you have to be looking.

Instant – Ruin Pub

-drinks -dancing/live music With 26 rooms, 7 bars, 4 dedicated dance floors, 7 stages, 2 outdoor gardens, and no cover charge (ever), Instant is Budapest’s largest Ruin Pub and the place to go any night of the week for live music. Dance underneath statues of rabbits and ghoulish animals hanging from the ceiling or sit at a table and chat with the locals and tourists in one of the gardens. The drinks are slightly more expensive than Szimpla but they make up for it by having live hip-hop, American rock, Hungarian DJs, and more in a single night. Only a few blocks from Szimpla, you can easily go to both in one night.

Cydonia Vintage

-shopping -lgtbq -women owned Adorable and one of a kind, Viola and her mother take great pride in their beautifully curated shop. They have clothing and antiques going back to the 1800s, including functional art deco watches. I came for a quick interview and ended up staying for 4 hours talking with Viola about social justice issues all over the world. You don’t want to leave Budapest without stopping first here. When you are finished shopping head across the street to Cafe Toldi for some underground electronic music, a film, or a dance party.

-food -drinks Very delicious goulash and fun music. A little on the pricy side, but not by much. Hot alcoholic beverages and coffees in addition of a small selection of non-alcoholic cocktails including “safe sex on the beach.” List of allergens in four languages with pictures in the back of menu.
